‘Desde el Silencio’
La Tipica is an innovative, contemporary flamenco company formed in London in 2008. It is an international collaboration between the guitarist and composer Jorge Bravo, the dancer Natalia Garcia-Huidobro, singer Ulises Diaz, percussionist Demi Garcia, and English violinist Meg Hamilton. With their diverse cultural backgrounds adding depth and interest to the collaboration, these musicians have come together in La Tipica with the aim of expanding flamenco’s traditional musical and choreographical structures, incorporating elements of contemporary dance, theatre, classical music and jazz.
‘Desde el Silencio’, La Tipica’s first work, was premiered in April 2008 at the Etcetera Theatre, with further London performances at the Clerkenwell Theatre and The Place (RESOLUTION dance festival 2009). The company toured Chile in April 2009, performing at Santiago’s Telefonica Theatre, Oriente Theatre and in Viña del Mar.
‘Desde el Silencio’ is a journey through moments of intimacy: loneliness, parting of ways, joy, changes, and the
crucial moments that help us find our true selves. It is an invitation for the audience to reflect on these intimacies and on the truth that can be found in silence. Music and choreography interact, enhancing the strength of the images and the emotional contrasts.
