George Maddocks has recently joined us as an Associate Director we asked him to start our blog off with his initial observations of working for us:
I've been working in and around LOST for the last year in various guises – I was the lead producer on this project, I assisted on their recent production of Market Boy and my own company chose LOST as the perfect venue for this project.
But no matter how much you may have worked in and around a theatre. You never really know it properly until you work there on a regular basis week in week out. Once you are doing that you really start to understand what motivates the people and the organization.
I've been lucky joining LOST when I did. We are going through a very exciting and revealing phase of work. Our production of 'Tomorrow I'll be Happy' by Jonathan Harvey has been selected as one of the National Theatre's Connections Plays and will be being performed at the NT Shed on the 3rd July. I'd love to post a link to tickets but it's already sold out!
Being new to LOST I knew nothing about the Nationals Connections scheme. So I did some asking around. It become immediately clear that it is a fantastic opportunity for young people.
The National Theatre commissions some of the finest playwrights to write ten pieces. These are performed by companies up and down the country and a selection of these pieces is chosen to be shown at the National Theatre.
LOST's focus is (and always has been) on the development of new talent, its something that the theatre takes very seriously. Giving the nine young people who have participated in Tomorrow I'll be Happy the chance to perform on one of the biggest and most prodigious stages in the UK is something that the team really wanted to achieve and worked very hard to do so.
Theres a quiet pride in and around the theatre that LOST has given them these young people the correct support they need to do justice to their considerable talent and a real determination that they should impress enormously on their day at the National.
Over the next few weeks we'll be adding to this blog with testimonials, photos and observations from the team handing 'Tomorrow I'll be Happy' and I'll be adding my observations as well.
First impressions of LOST are of a multi skilled dynamic team taking great pride in producing top quality theatre and bringing up the next generation of theatre makers. Its great to be onboard and I'm looking forward to working with such a passionate company.
